Heritage
As
well as Hadrian's Wall, the region contains three other World
Heritage Sites - Durham Cathedral and Castle, Fountains Abbey
with Studley Royal Gardens, and the village of Saltaire. |

The
Biggest...
Britain's
largest piece of public art is Anthony Gormley's Angel of
the North, with a wingspan of 54 metres, and standing 20 metres
high. A huge and beautiful sculpture of oxidised steel, it
stands on a hill at Gateshead, overlooking the main thoroughfare
into Tyneside and has become one of Britain's best loved modern
landmarks. |
