A welcome message from the chairman

Heritage

As well as Hadrian's Wall, the region contains three other World Heritage Sites - Durham Cathedral and Castle, Fountains Abbey with Studley Royal Gardens, and the village of Saltaire.

The Biggest...

Britain's largest piece of public art is Anthony Gormley's Angel of the North, with a wingspan of 54 metres, and standing 20 metres high. A huge and beautiful sculpture of oxidised steel, it stands on a hill at Gateshead, overlooking the main thoroughfare into Tyneside and has become one of Britain's best loved modern landmarks.
